Ms. Parsons’ sixth-grade math classes went on a walking field trip last week to Sharp’s Market. On Thursday, October 3rd, the students had a mathematical task to create a dinner plan for a family of four. However, the students had to do this task while working within a $20.00 budget and applying the City of Weston’s sales tax rate of 7.975%. This culminating event took place so that the students could continue their studies and put to use the importance of decimals in real-world applications. The students did an excellent job with the mathematical task and were able to create their meals under budget. Ms. Parsons wants to thank Sharp’s Market for allowing us the opportunity to visit their local business and for allowing the sixth grade to have such a wonderful mathematical experience.
